Michael Sani was made a Lego Re-Imagination Learning Fellow in 2016, working with other fellows across the world to develop play to learn based activities.  The Lego vision and research is inspiring key elements of our innovations in early years games and resources, designed to tackle the root causes related to poor civic engagement.

We collaborated with Tinder during the EU Referendum to create ‘Swipe The Vote UK’, creating a game on the European Union that brought politics to the app’s audience. One in five of Tinder’s users clicked through to register in the month of June 2016 as a result of playing Swipe The Vote

We teamed up with HOPE not hate to coordinate the #TurnUp campaign in the build-up to the EU referendum in June 2016. This collaboration brought together our different and shared expertise to try and reach as many diverse communities as possible to inspire their active engagement in the referendum. This campaign led to 1.85 million citizens registering to vote in 9 days and oh yeah, the surge in demand crashed the registration portal.

Initially working directly with the largest National Citizen Service (NCS)  provider, The Challenge Network, we trained their staff in delivering our experiential learning game ‘The Basics’. This has lead to tens of thousands of NCS attendees registering to vote whilst on residential, and a registration rate of 95% of participants. Today we are supporting them  in achieving the recently updated NCS Charter which now states that all participants must be democratically engaged and invited to register to vote. BOOM!

We worked with Starbucks UK in both 2015 and 2016 to run our reinvigoration of the 17th Century coffee house, DeCafe (short for Democracy Cafe). During the initial pilot in 2015, DeCafes took place in 50 local communities, involving 600 participants. As a result of the pilot’s success,  we partnered once again in 2016 to continue the project, working in collaboration to provide DeCafes across the UK in the run up to the EU Referendum.

Here are just some of the partners that we’ve worked with to bring politics to the people in unconventional and inclusive ways:
